System requirements

Supported platforms

Radio Explorer is supported on all versions of Windows starting from Windows 98, and on all curently supported versions of Ubuntu Linux Desktop Edition.

Although only limited support is provided for the Mac OS X operating system, Radio Explorer is reported to run with only a few possible glitches on recent versions of Mac OS X with recent versions of Java™ software.

Radio Explorer may also run on other operating systems for which Java software is available.

Testing is done on Windows XP, Windows Me, and on the latest version of Ubuntu Linux Desktop Edition. If you run Radio Explorer on Mac OS X or on another operating system, and encounter a problem, you are encouraged to report it to support@radioexplorer.com.ru, as described at the technical support page.

Java™ software

Radio Explorer requires Java software version 1.4.2 or later to be installed on your machine.

Testing is done with the latest version of Java software available for each operating system that testing is done on.

For some operating systems, Java software is available from more than one supplier. Java software from Sun Microsystems, Inc. is recommended on Windows, Linux, and on other operating systems for which it is available. If Java software from Sun Microsystems, Inc. is not available for your operating system, you can try running Radio Explorer with Java software from other suppliers.

You can check whether Java software is installed on your machine, as well as find out whether the installed version is the recommended version, using the installation verification Page on the Web page of java.com Page on the Web, the consumer site for Java software.

You can check whether Java software works correctly on your machine, as well as find out its version and its supplier, using the work test Page on the Web page of java.com Page on the Web.

It is recommended that you keep Java software up‑to‑date on your machine. Updates provide Java software with the latest data about time zones and their daylight saving time regulations, as well as resolve possible Java software vulnerability issues.

On Windows

Java software from Sun Microsystems, Inc. is available free at the download Page on the Web page of java.com Page on the Web.

To update Java software, use Java Control Panel, available via Windows Control Panel.

On Linux

Java software from Sun Microsystems, Inc. is available free at the download Page on the Web page of java.com Page on the Web.

On Ubuntu Linux, the recommended way to install Java software is from the Ubuntu Linux software repository. This way provides better integration of Java software into Ubuntu Linux.

Start the Synaptic Package Manager utility. With Ubuntu Classic desktop (on the latest version of Ubuntu Linux, you can choose it at login), the utility is available from the Administration submenu of the main System menu.

In the Synaptic Package Manager utility, on the Settings menu, click Repositories. The Software Sources dialog box will be displayed. Enable the Canonical Partners repository (named partner in older versions of Ubuntu Linux). Install the packagessun-java6-jre andsun-java6-plugin.

To update Java software installed from the Ubuntu Linux software repository, use the Update Manager utility.

On Mac OS X

Java software for Mac OS X is produced natively by Apple. Mac OS X comes with Java software installed by default.

To update Java software, use the Software Update utility of Mac OS X.

System configuration

If your computer can run Java software, then there are no additional system requirements, except for the minimum screen resolution, which is 1024 by 600 pixels.

For system requirements of Java software from Sun Microsystems, Inc., please see java.com Page on the Web. For system requirements of Java software from other suppliers, please see their Web sites.
